2009 Top 15 EPs

An EP (extended play) is defined as a record, cd or audio file that is larger than a single but not long enough to be a full length album. Sometimes bands remind their listeners of their presence with a teaser of what may come; other times an EP represents a chronicling of a creative period for the band. The origin of the EP is the 7 inch record and is a medium that became obsolete and was re popularized in the Punk era. Many of the EPs on this year's list are either an introduction to some new and exciting bands breaking into the music scene or are annual favorites exhibiting many of the creative experiments that were a result from a track that landed on a recently released album.
